Integrative Massage brings these wonderful modalities together
Swedish Massage
When the majority of people think of massage, this is what they know it to be. However, the definition of massage is not swedish. Swedish is simply a style. Swedish is defined as a series of sliding and gliding strokes on the body with lubrication like lotion, cream or oil. This may include vibration, tapping and cupping of the muscles in stimulation or kneading and rhythmic strokes all in order to relieve muscle tension. Swedish in and of itself is very relaxing to the nervous system due to its rhythmic sequence. I like to explain Swedish as being like an exploration of the body. Beneath this exploration are areas that may need detailed attention, release and a patient touch for encouragement in letting go. Areas that may be the root cause of what you might be seeing me for in the first place. This is where the following Therapies step in along the way for brief moments, yet by themselves they can certainly take the spotlight.
Acupressure
Acupressure is the holding of points on the body. These points may be points of tension or even in some cases, what we would commonly call knots. Some points are and can be specific. Yes, your body contains energy. The human body is an energetic being. I will hold with light to moderate pressure to help the energy of the body freely flow and release tension in these areas. Body energy can get ‘trapped’ thus creating tension patterns and knots in the body. The body can have blocked energy, too much energy, or have too low of energy. I hold these areas until I feel the body release. This can sometimes take anywhere from 3-5 minutes. Acupressure is something that can be integrated into a session or can be a full session solely on its own.
Benefits of acupressure include but are not limited to relief of sinus pressure, headaches and migraines, motion sickness, muscle pain, TMJ related issues, stress management, insomnia. It really does aid in bringing balance and harmony to the body as a whole. Ever pinch your nose with your thumbs when you have a headache? You’re intuitively giving yourself acupressure.
Craniosacral
The spinal fluid in the spinal cord is continually moving back and forth along the spine from the cranium at your head, to the sacrum at your hips. New spinal fluid is regenerated by your body every six hours! This movement is also called the Cranial Wave but is also called Cranial Rhythm or Pulse.
An entire session can be focused on cranio sacral. Full cranio sacral sessions are more still on my part as I work from your sacrum to your head in a series of gentle holds. This allows your body to release tension in the form of physical, emotional and psychological stress. The goal is regain balance of the cerebral spinal fluid and affect the nervous system by bringing the body to a state of peace. This can be an effective therapy for those struggling with anxiety, depression, brain fog, migraines and headaches, ear ringing, sinus pressure or fluid, sleep disturbances, back pain and more.
I also integrate Myofascial Release, Stretching & Range of Motion as well as muscle testing. More information on this to come….
